Unfolding Specialized System

This specific exhibition was organized by his son, Barnaba Fornasetti. He has been constantly producing and reviving the design sensitivity of Piero Fornasetti that generates reinterpretation to the modern times. It consists of over 1,300 selected works from Milano Fornasetti Archive and illuminated them in a total of fourteen sections. Fornasetti is known for extensively producing and applying variations on a specific theme. For instance, he utilized cylindrical masonite tubes from power stations and transformed them into various designs for different purposes. Yet most importantly, his artistic inspiration and originality should be perceived. He constantly read various books for inspiration and imagination and collected images for aesthetic references.

The exhibition also demonstrates the history of numerous decorative collaboration with the director of the Triennale di Milano and architect Gio Ponti that began with the competition of young talent back in 1933, when he submitted silk scarves. Fornasetti showed constant creativity in many fields, as he had a career as a decorator, painter, designer, printer, publisher, craftsman, and gallerist, but his performance as a collector also became the important factor in his life. As a collector, he took great significance in embedded message behind an object. Fornasetti’s concept of creation does not come from the idea of ‘new,’ but rather a form of transformation derived from a given subject. It is eventually regarded as a sustaining element for another creation.
